Hi! You’re here! Thank you.
I took last week off, and came back ready to post. The most fun this week was that Amy DeBellis blew up my website. Look at this chart:
That’s daily traffic. Until Monday, all those green lines were nice and tall. But the traffic that Amy drove by posting this piece to her Twitter and Instagram has pretty much made a mess of my analytics forever. That’s awesome. Hi new friends! Hope you stick around!
Of course: Read the Amy DeBellis thing if you haven’t. Her story is as incredible as her writing talent.
Also, read Little Eyes by Samanta Schweblin.
Good music across the board this week too. This is a fantastic week to check out the playlist. Sixteen songs by sixteen artists that are very different from each other. I’m sure you’ll find something new that you like, and I’m sure one thing will be Clowns by Elizabeth M. Drummond.
I hope you find something you like here, and if you’re inclined, get in touch.

New-ish things
All of these artists are on this week’s playlist for Apple Music and Spotify
Blog faves
- Honeyglaze released their latest single, Cold Caller, a sweet-sounding bit of indie pop about loneliness
- Math Club released lovely emo single The Sun (Again), the last before the release of the LP Sleeping in the Sun comes out in two weeks. Can’t wait
- Rêverie released hypnotic electro song Sinner – another banger
- Philly band Soft No released new single Melting Timelines – quickly becoming a favourite new band. Their LP comes out Aug 3 (watch this space)
New artists (to me)
- green star from London released shoegazey Blades of Steel, a strong first single
- Toronto’s Cold Specks released gorgeous ballad How it Feels, her first single in seven years, I missed her voice so much
- Brighton’s Our Girl released Something About Me Being a Woman, their second great indie rock single of the year
- Emory‘s debut single is strange and addictive hyperpop: Tooth came out in May but I just heard it yesterday. You should hear it today
- Offworld Narcotics from NYC (fantastic name) released their debut trip-hop single Mariana

-
Annie-Dog – Annie-Dog EP
Dublin
I’ve had Annie-Dog’s first single in rotation for a while, and I’m still drawn in by the details. The new EP is complicated, weird and compelling
-
Clothesline from Hell – You Don’t Know / Open Up
Toronto
Clothesline from Hell has a fresh take on the sound that made Beck a household name. The two latest singles are perfect for days with no A/C
-
Elizabeth M. Drummond – Clowns / Everything / Simplify
Melbourne
Elizabeth M. Drummond is a glorious weirdo. Her music videos are bizarre, hilarious and a bit unsettling
-
Thermal – Kiss the Ground / Plaster Girl EP
Toronto
90s alt-rock vibes are everywhere today. Thermal nails the aesthetic and their new single is fantastic
-
Velvetine – Everyday Masquerade / Hideaway / Curtainsong
London, UK
Three great singles and a couple of killer live performances. Velvetine seems ready to take off
-
TV Dog – Feminine Subject / Always Autumn / Phoebe Bridgers
Toronto
I thought I’d written about this band months ago. Better late than never
-
Birds of Prrrey – Yet, We’re Still Growing In Place
Montreal
Fierce 90’s-influenced grunge punk from Montreal, like lost demos from Live Through This-era Hole.
