Week wrap – August 9, 2024

Week wrap: new singles plus everything else I wrote about last week including books, music, and more

Jump to new releases, this week’s music posts, or things to read.

Hi! You’re here! Thank you.

Off to a wedding today, and since Monday was a holiday, it’s been a quiet week, short playlist, but you should listen to Lucky Break some more. Or this week’s playlist.

Last Friday night I decided to make some changes, which resulted in a ton of bug hunting. So if you find things that are broken, please let me know.

I try not to be negative on this site, but The Art Thief is not a good book!

Know what else is no good? The Mysterines show getting cancelled!

Another slim week next week – I’m travelling Monday and at a concert Friday (Bully! Thunder Queens! Nyssa! Treble Charger! Violent Femmes(?!)).

Here is this week’s playlist for Apple Music and Spotify

New Singles from Blog Faves

  • Toronto’s Kathy Katouzi released “FLATL!NE“, and it’s been in my head all week. Both singles she’s put out this year have been instant faves
  • Jagged Baptist Club released new banger “You Are a Dog“, second single from the upcoming Physical Surveillance LP (November 15)
  • UK indie band Honeyglaze released “Pretty Girls”, a restrained single from the album Real Deal, coming Sept 20
  • Somehow I missed that electronic OGs Seefeel announced their first album since 2011, titled Everything Squared, coming September 20. The second single “Sky Hooks” was released recently

    Janan Ganesh’s Rules of Reading

Ganesh’s advice is snobby, but it’s not terrible. Books don’t work like other media. It’s complicated.
