This reminded me a lot of Dopesick and Evicted, in that it dissects a whole lot about America through a seemingly simple lens.
Alexander is a great writer, he profiles his characters in a way that reminds me of Michael Lewis.
He has a lot to say about capitalism, politics and the social hierarchy in the United States, and it’s not very optimistic. The book is sad and insightful, and will leave you with a lot to chew on. Even though I’m Canadian, the systems have some things in common, like certain aspects of healthcare being tied to employment.
One of the best nonfiction books I’ve read this year.
