Sprints – Letter to Self

I’ve listened to this for more than a week straight. My wife described it as “The Cranberries covering Hole” and that’s not bad. Here’s the song that convinced me to dig in (fun 90’s style video too):

Here’s the one currently on repeat:

The whole album is good.

Good Kid – New Single

New song by blog favourites:

I’m a fan of these guys for sure and the new song is on par for them. What I dug this week though was  their latest EP. My kid put the thing on the other day, and the b-side was random remixes and restyling of their stuff. No details given on the jacket, but it was an awesome easter egg.

(They’re going on tour, you should buy tickets)

Rusty – Fluke

Don’t know why this album popped into my head the other day but there are some bangers on it.

New LP finds:

Some good CanCon here, but the real snag is the GVSB album. It’s more than 20 years old but two bass guitars still sounds unique.

Cowboy Junkies: Trinity Session

Canadian classic. Obviously Sweet Jane is The Song, but the whole album is warm and beautiful. If you don’t know the story, it’s a good one.

Eric B. And Rakim: Paid in Full

I saw him live in 2010 at Harbourfront in Toronto, it was a great show, but sadly there isn’t much of the show on YouTube. He’s the best MC of his era, no question, and this album is an all-timer.

Girls Against Boys: Venus Luxure No. 1 Baby

Saw these guys play twice – once opening for Garbage in 1998, once headlining Lee’s Palace in 2000. The three-record stretch — This one, Cruise Yourself and House of GVSB were the soundtrack to my 20’s. The album stands up well, it’s dark, gloomy, sinister and full of catchy bass hooks.

REM: Monster

I’m in that crowd somewhere — it was May 17, 2001, and I was fresh out of university and fully unemployed. That show was the beginning of a good run of luck for me. I’m a late-career REM fan, Automatic for the People was my introduction to them, and this album is every bit as good.

Bob and Doug Mackenzie: Great White North
