Slow Reader – Warners

This Hamilton band’s latest single is a great addition to the summer roadtrip playlist

Released: 2023

Not a whole lot to learn about this band from Hamilton. They’ve released 5 songs so far — a self-titled EP at the end of 2022 and a follow-up single called Warners at the end of 2023. I’ve been coming back to this one pretty often in the past few weeks. It’s great roadtrip music (ahem):

It’s polished and energetic, with a catchy melody. It’s a killer hook and a unique sound. Can’t get enough.

The vibe on their debut self-titled EP is lo-fi, guitar-forward indie, but there’s frequently something even more retro about the stuff from the EP — the handclaps and reverb make these songs sound like 90’s songs that would have been called retro-inspired when they were new. I just found out the innocence mission is kind of still around, because that’s what this reminds me of.

Hopefully they’ve got more coming in 2024. They’re playing pretty regularly around Hamilton and Toronto.
