Now we’re cooking. great area is apparently the work of one person, visual artist Georgie Nettell. I’m no art critic, but the work at that link definitely seems to project the same sort of listless nihilism that the music does:
It’s sample-heavy except for the bass guitar and vocals. It’s trip-hoppy, melancholy and fascinating. All the songs are under 3 minutes, though they don’t feel abrupt. There’s another release from 2022 – a six-track EP called Follow Your Nature, which sounds more conventional and produced, but is just as compelling.
The Relaxin’ Records website is worth a visit too – it feels like something from 1998 or so – bizarre and mildly hostile, but in the best way.
I haven’t heard of Relaxin’ Records or the founder, artist Lolina until today, but I’m digging in now. More to follow, I imagine.
