The Apple Music recommendation engine is getting better all the time. The ‘New Music Mix’ playlist has become a goldmine lately, full of low-profile artists doing great stuff. Bahia’s one of those, and her latest song, “Blinds”, has been playing all weekend:

Bahia was (I learned this from a TikTok video) born in Argentina, raised in Atlanta and lives in Miami, which sounds like the perfect combination of influences to make the music she does.

I don’t know much about this style of music, so comparisons are difficult – but I love the contrast of the club beat and the relaxed, multilingual vocal. The song came out last month, her first since her debut four-song EP Stills from last August. That EP has a fantastic off-kilter DIY sound to it, somewhere between bedroom pop, cocktail lounge, and downtempo EDM with a strong vocal jazz influence. It’s perfect summer late-night (with no air conditioning) music. Check out “After”, from that EP:

Her voice has a warm, unprocessed, and effortless quality to it that’s irresistible. Here’s another one from that EP, called “Order”:

She seems most active on TikTok – outside of that it’s difficult to find out anything about her. Hopefully there’s more on the way.
