She’s the best songwriter I’ve heard in a long time.

Hit play and we’ll talk after:

That’s one of the most gorgeous songs I’ve heard this year. I can’t get enough of it. Julie Title is an artist who I’ve been aware of for a while, and I’m a bit annoyed that I hadn’t listened to her music closely before. She’s been a regular on the Toronto scene for a few years, has been covered in a bunch of different media, and even had a song used on the TV show The Fosters (I loved the early seasons of that show).

Earlier this year she released Running, which has a much more Americana feel to it. It’s another beautiful song with bonus zombie movie footage in the lyric video:

That’s enough to convince me to listen to everything she’s released. It was probably the best thing I’ve done this week.

Her latest full-length, After the Sun, came out in 2022. It’s more subdued than the two tracks above, and her voice and personal, poetic lyrics are front and centre, with tracks like Ghost and Four Horsemen as standouts:

On her Bandcamp you can find her first EP, Green from 2019. It’s just guitar and vocal, and includes early versions of a couple of the songs on After the Sun. It’s also fantastic. She’s the best songwriter I’ve heard in a long time.

In this interview she says she’s got an EP coming this summer, and she’s also got an alt-rock band project on the go. Can’t wait to hear it all.
