Hi! You’re here! Thank you.
My air conditioning has been broken for more than a week, and of course my day job has been so demanding I haven’t had the time to get the kayak in the water. The AC is under warranty but the parts are back-ordered; it’s unclear when they’ll be in, so I think the kayaks are going in this weekend.
I got off to a slow start this week – the idea of voluntarily sitting and writing in my sweltering home office was a non-starter. But! It cooled off on Wednesday and we were back in business. Plus there are still lots of singles to talk about.
Read Daphne du Maurier. Listen to Ani After Death. Do both at the same time, they probably complement each other well.
I hope you find something you like here, and if you’re inclined, get in touch.

New-ish things
All of these artists are on this week’s playlist for Apple Music and Spotify
Blog faves
- Vitesse X released “Eternal“, her third single this year, and my easy favourite
- Root Cause released single “Skim” today – melodic and loud emo
- Rose Brokenshire released new single “Afterthought” – soothing, lush and memorable
New artists (to me)
- Praise Team released their second-ever single called “Strict“, it’s theatrical, spooky indie rock
- Jimmy & The Veil released promising debut single “Diamonds” – 90s-style alt rock
- Theo Moss released debut single “Autopilot” – catchy indie
- The debut from The Pill is called “Bale of Hay” – funny, sarcastic punk
- Toronto’s So Tired released her debut single “Drop Me“, anxious, angular, and noisy
- Ain’t, from the UK, released melodic alt-rock debut single “Oar” back in May – EO out soon

I can’t believe I haven’t heard Shelf Lives until now. Their ferocious energy is contagious

Lena Hessels – Dance! / The Car / Heat
Amsterdam
Lena Hessels creates catchy indie pop music. A couple of her songs are instant summer faves. Instagram | X | Bandcamp | Youtube | Website I seem to be on a pop music streak lately – maybe it’s the heat (and broken air conditioning, parts on back order, don’t get me started), or maybe it’s…

Ani After Death
Calgary
Ani After Death has a knack for the provocative, atmospheric and magnificently off-kilter. It’s Portishead via Twin Peaks.
