Five short stories this week, including three from one author.
I’ve been super busy with the whole Year Zero stuff last week and doing minor design updates as well, but these short stories stood out to me lately:
Three from Kim Magowan:
- The Last Faculty Meeting in Atlas and Alice: a weird, slow reveal of something very unexpected during a relatable work meeting.
- Professor Leonora Looks Back in Gone Lawn, where the narrator juxtaposes classroom lessons with other, more significant events.
- Juice in Fictive Dream: I’d read this when it was new and forgotten about it. It’s funny throughout, with a brilliant final paragraph.
and a couple of other authors:
- Sophia Goes Bowling at 3AM by Marilyn Duarte in Trampset (more to come from Marilyn): Everyone had a childhood friend like Sophia, but most of those friendships didn’t go this way.
- When I Say Grief by Ciara Alfaro in Fractured Lit: a single paragraph mourning the end of a marriage, brilliantly written: “My husband left me in February. He left with my love in his hands, and I walked to the pharmacy for a carton of eggs.”
