Tom Scocca on Indignity about Automattic’s deal to sell WordPress data to AI companies. It’s a surprising move for an organization like WordPress, but money talks, I guess. As Scocca did, I looked for a while to see if it would apply to me (at least something would be reading this!), but it wasn’t clear and I gave up.

Did my old publication use a JetPack plugin? If so, did that really matter? How much research or investigation did I need to do to figure out if somebody was selling my work to an AI company? Why was I wasting my time on this? And now I’m wasting your time on this! All because somebody grabbed something that they have no logical excuse to grab.

At some point there will be a ‘how to opt out’ article on The Verge or something. Until then I guess OpenAI can take what it wants.
