“I had no idea she would become what she has become.”

I started this article looking forward to reading about an Airbnb landlord taking it on the chin, but by the end of it I felt bad for the guy. Seems these days Airbnb does more harm than good, and anything that accelerates their exit from a community is probably a net positive.

Still, though:

Now, the two neighbors share a property, living feet away from each other while fighting it out in a bitter legal battle.

“It’s like a war where no bullets are flying. Every time I open the door, I’m afraid she’ll be leaving at the same time,” he said. “Her door is a few feet from my daughter’s bedroom. We don’t sleep well anymore.”

The landlord is the sole source for the story (aside from some lawyers). He also admits that he didn’t get proper licensing to rent out the unit. Airbnb left him hanging and deleted his account when things went sideways. Somehow the company largely escapes further criticism in this article.

Generally, bad tenants get way more press than they deserve (for reasons I’m sure related to who has money and who doesn’t). We don’t spend enough energy getting mad at all the things that enabled this system.
