Year Zero: What’s next?

That was fun.

Thanks for checking out the Year Zero stuff. It was a lot of work, but really rewarding to put together. Like everything else with this project, I learned a ton and almost bit off more than I could chew. I got through it with minimal gaffes, I think.

There were a couple things I couldn’t get around to, but I have those in my pocket for other times of the year.

Looking forward

Well, there’s a minor redesign coming to make the homepage more balanced. I have a couple ideas for working with others on some feature stuff, if I show up in your DMs, act surprised. If you want to kick around ideas for collaboration, please reach out, I’m always up for new adventures.

This whole exercise made me realize how much I’ve grown in the last year. I’m a better writer and editor, a better reader and listener, and I think I appreciate the work of the people I feature on a different level than I did when I started. That’s to say I think I’m a better thinker. There are so many great things to come, despite the shitshow in the world around us.

Thanks to everyone who reached out, shared, liked, followed and engaged with this stuff over the year. I didn’t expect this little project to lead to new friendships, but I’m so glad that it did. I love you all!

Keep supporting artists however you can – whether that’s by buying books, records and merch, forcing the stuff on your friends, streaming your favourites without an adblocker, or simply (ahem) subscribing to a newsletter, every bit matters.

One last thing (like the bonus track on a CD): you should really check out Punchbag, a band from London with no releases on streaming yet. I wrote about them back in May after seeing a video of them playing at a club, and I’ve listened to that video like a dozen times. They have yet to release anything outside of that, but the performance video is just killer. Put it on while you’re working and you’ll see.

Follow along
