I missed them recently in Toronto, won’t make that mistake again. This band was built for the live show

Some bands you know you have to see live to fully get, and I’m pretty sure Wax Jaw is one of them. This track just screams to be played live and loud, and the video reminds me of an even more playful take on Sabotage, one of the best ever. Check it out:

That sounds like a band built for the live show, and the press they’ve gotten says that too. They call themselves “Philadelphia’s Dance-Punk Darlings” on their Instagram, and it works for me. Especially if there’s more like that coming our way.

Their debut EP, titled Between the Teeth came out last year, and it’s catchy and fun, with a much more throwback feel to it. Lots of high-energy guitar riffs that sound like psychedelic-infused retro surf rock:

For a first release, it sure has a lot of character. The six tracks cover a lot of ground, musically. It closes with Beach (On My Own) – a surf-punk banger that’s fully irresistable:

There’s not a lot else to say about them right now. I’m sure there’s more on the way. Naturally, they came to Toronto recently and I missed them. I won’t make that mistake again.
