Don’t know how this single found its way onto my playlist, but it hit while I was driving through windy forest roads and we had a moment (read: I played the song like 4 times in a row, nearly got busted for speeding). It’s a perfect roadtrip single:
That one is new, but the band has been around a couple of years. They’re from Sweden, though you wouldn’t know it from the singer’s voice — she sounds as California as you can get. Here’s a live performance of their debut single, it’s on their 2023 EP Real Life Human Garbage, which is also a new favourite:
They were all studying Jazz at university when they formed, and you can hear the professionalism in the performance. That record is a bit of an indie-pop masterpiece. The lyrics are funny, personal and relatable, the melodies are catchy and memorable, and the production is polished.
The other 2023 EP is called Granny Music (you can get ’em both on one LP if you like, but the US store is out of stock so I’m out of luck).
The second EP has a couple tracks that sound a little closer to the new single – more big guitar riffs, more layers, overall bigger sound. Monster is a good example:
Here’s a good NME article that talks about the bands origin and vibe, written between the release dates of the two EPs. Here’s another in Paste Magazine that dissects the second EP.
