That song – Panic & Apathy – has been on my car playlist for months. I don’t know how it got there but every time it comes on I turn it way up.
Than this past weekend I started seeing video on Instagram showing some bands I love playing on the roof of a shipping container at Stakt Market. Camille was one of them, and I finally connected the dots.
Listen to it again, I know you want to:
She came out strong with her first single Hopeless Romantic, which is the lead on her debut EP Near Quaint. The EP shows a range of indie-rock styles and an instantly recognizable vocal:
She’s gotten some attention recently both from Exclaim as part of their “Class of 2024” (this must be where I first heard it!) and from BlogTO for her weekly live music hosting gig Agave, showcasing other local artists. She’s also an accomplished illustrator, under her given name, Jenelle Lewis.
Just as I was preparing to post this, it occurred to me that her performer name is a double entendre (get it? Camille Leon…chameleon? I’m a little slow today). Perhaps in reference to the range in musical styles, or the wide range of artistic talent. This music thing seems to suit her pretty well, can’t wait to hear what’s next.
One more time, I won’t tell:
Follow along
