Bessel van der Kolk in NYMag

Bessel van der Kolk wrote The Body Keeps the Score, which changed the way I look at the world around me and the people in it. Danielle Carr profiles him in NY Magazine and it’s a good read.

One thing it touches on is problems with the viral-ness of the book:

If he were to disavow the excesses of how his work is being popularized in order to preserve its scientific bona fides, it would mean taming its viral uptake.

Other books that cover similar territory that I recommend are The Myth of Normal and Scattered Minds by Gabor Maté, I Feel Love by Rachel Nuwar and, to a lesser extent, How to Change your Mind by Michael Pollan.
