About Turn & Work
Hi, and thanks for coming by! Turn & Work has been a thing since late 2023, but the vision has been constantly evolving. It started as a book blog (turn and work is a play on an old printing term) but has become something that’s split between books, short stories and music.
It is:
- 3-ish book reviews a week (I read a TON, and try to be as varied as I can be)
- 4-ish music features a week (with a distinct Canadian bias). Not reviews: I don’t write about music I don’t like.
- The Shortlist: links to short-form writing that I love (short stories and creative nonfiction)
- The Setlist: a weekly playlist and some callouts to new artists and great music I’ve heard
- The Spotlight: my slow foray into publishing short stories
- Welcome Distractions: the newsletter (and watered-down Monday post) containing bookish and music-ish links, and some other stuff.
I try to find stuff that’s under the radar or a bit weird. Music and books and stories are important and worth spending time on. The best stuff is never the most popular stuff. Send me good stuff.
It isnt:
- pay-for-play. I do not and will not take money from musicians or writers.
- reviews of artists that are covered amply elsewhere
- rewritten press releases, album or tour announcements
